BACON SHOT GLASSES ARE REAL AND THEY ARE GLORIOUS

Posted by 1 on

We’ve all been there before, standing at the bar, shot glass in hand, ready to throw the spirit down our gullet, when we’ve thought to ourselves “man this would really be so much better if the shot glass I’m holding was made out of bacon and dipped in chocolate.” Well wish no more, because thanks to food blog Through The Eyes Of My Belly, that dream is now a reality. While the shot glasses are a little time intensive to make, they actually seem pretty simple – we’re shocked no one has thought of this before. All you need to do is create your molds, wrap bacon around them, and then bake. Once your bacon shot glasses are out of the oven, you simply dip them in chocolate – the chocolate being delicious as well as functionary, sealing any holes to allow the bacon shot to actually hold your preferred spirit. After that, the sky’s the limit as to what you choose to fill your glasses with. In terms of the appropriate liquid filling, bourbon would be our first choice, playing well with both the sweet chocolate and the smoky, salty bacon, but the glasses would also work well with a smoky Islay scotch, a rich rum or even a smooth añejo tequila. We’d just avoid filling these withvodka, gin or a sweet liqueur as those flavor combos probably won’t work out too well. bacon-shotglasses-inside-header-1 What you’ll need for 3 bacon-booze-filled shot glasses: 1 lb. thin sliced bacon..NOT thick cut! A shot glass Toothpicks Some frosting…may or may not be needed. Directions: Simply wrap about 3-4 slices of bacon around the outer part of a shot glass making sure to overlap the bacon to allow for it to shrink and still keep a leak proof seal.  Secure the bacon onto the glass with some tooth picks… Microwave it on a plate for approx. 1-2 minutes, depending on your microwave..jut make sure that the bacon is golden and not over cooked. Carefully remove the formed bacon from the exterior of the glass while it’s still warm..be careful not to burn your fingers, but this is a hot job..haha!  If you don’t remove the bacon while it’s warm, it will stick to the glass.  I mean you can still take your shot, so don’t panic..it just won’t look as cute. When you’ve removed the bacon..manipulate it a bit to make sure it’s a shape you like and let it cool completely! If you need to fill in some gaps in the bacon so you don’t spring any leaks..no worries!  Just GENTLY smear some melted chocolate or frosting into the bottom, or fill any holes..and let it dry! Then fill it up with your fave booze and slam it..eat that bacon shot glass right after, as the world’s best bacony-booze-chaser EVER. ~Enjoy & CHEERS!
