Make This Go-Anywhere Armrest Drink Holder and Never Spill Another Beer

Posted by 1 on

Side tables are nice for holding drinks, but they take up valuable floor space. A sofa armrest is the ideal spot to place your beverage, but usually they are curved and unsuitable for balancing a drink. Now there's a smarter idea. The YouTube channel Make Something shares their DIY drink holder, made from wood and a strip of leather, that you can build yourself. https://youtu.be/avPIlXS3z7Q

Start with a nice plank of hardwood and cut it into six even pieces and one larger piece that will serve as the holder. A router will give a nice rounded edge to the pieces; use a sander to clean them up. Glue the pieces to a piece of leather that is cut to size. This will provide a nice no-slip surface for the holder to hang on the armrest.

Use a forstner bit and a drill press to cut the center hole for the holder. Then attach a small piece of leather to a thin strip of wood to place underneath the hole.

This drink holder is great for a can of soda or beer, but anything larger might be a risky proposition. If you've got a wider armrest you can adjust the length and make additional panels.
